Current single LOVERS IN THE NIGHT! This 21st Century mix is a Romeo-and-Juliet-style love story, with a happy ending!! I love the crazy intro, it reflects the turmoil felt by the runaways.
This song is about two young star-crossed lovers, who are in love and want to spend their lives together. They are “underage” for marriage and need their parents’ consent who think they are too young. ...more
Lonely Avenue is about exclusivity, how people are detached from reality and don’t live in the ‘real’ world. They have beautiful homes but have no personal interaction with people or even their own neighbours. ...more
When I first came to London I was on the underground (tube), standing on the escalator exiting the station. I saw people running up the escalator and thought how crazy people were to be rushing to their jobs! ...more
"The Unspoken Words" is inspired by how people are pressurised to fit in or behave in a certain way. We live in an extremely image-conscious world and social media often distorts reality. ...more
The Game of Life starts the moment we are born. We don’t choose our background. You have no say in the hand you are dealt in life. How you play your hand determines your life. ...more

This is Eston Hills, North Yorkshire on fire. A natural landscape being destroyed by arsonists and climate change. Eston Hills, North Yorkshire, England is being ravaged by arson attacks and damaged by vandals and fly-tipping. The issue is made worse by drier climates due to global warming. On Earth Day 2024 let's take action and be kinder to the planet! I grew up and played on Eston Hills. It's a small part of bigger landscapes of the World. Yet everywhere is someone's home. Help me preserve this special piece of the land for future generations to enjoy. The senseless destruction of an important heritage site inspired me to write this song. I want to empower people to band together, stand up for their environment when it’s under threat. Let’s use music as a positive and non-violent way to drive change and create a sustainable world. Before it’s too late. ...more

This song is about true identity. It was written at a time when your destiny was chosen for you based on your background and education or lack of it. Ambition and individuality were often stifled, you had to fight to be who you wanted to be. Our inner self consists of hidden personas, like Russian dolls. The different facets of our personality are often revealed in extreme situations. And they can be good or bad because the circumstance dictates your reaction. In an age of social media we show a public facade. Often people are afraid to show their true self, and this is about having the courage to be authentic, to be the person you really are ..... more...more

Recorded and mastered for this century! An ode to Lambretta scooters, parkas, smart suits and being “sharp”. Us working class mods spent our wages on made to measure suits, music and clubbing. It was all about fashion and style, escaping your daily life. The sharper you looked, the better your chances of dancing with a girl down the club! The late 70’s mod revival and film Quadrophenia made this the perfect time for The Stilettos to release This Is The Way, in November 1979. It’s a flippant nod to the 60’s, “Whiskey a Go Go” was a Manchester club of the same name back then (based on the one in Hollywood). Go Go dancers grooving to great music. Superman aka Clark Kent on the big screen, the dream of winning the Football Pools! Enjoy This Is The Way. It’s a modernist classic!...more

My supportive words to a boy who was racially abused became This Land. It’s an anti-racism anthem for today’s society. During Black History Month, this is the time to reflect on what we can do to fight prejudice and inequality based on skin colour and heritage. Racism is not a “black” or “ethnic” issue, it’s a human issue. We need to stand up in unity against it. Let’s use the power of music and songs to do this!...more

My first single since lockdown restrictions removed. I wrote this song about having a voice to express your opinions. Identity is at the heart of this song, about being accepted for who we are no matter our heritage or background. On World Humanitarian Day, 19 August 2021, it drives the message that not everyone in the World has freedom of speech or indeed, freedom itself....more

The different facets of love inspired me to write this song. Love can take us by surprise. You think you are “just good friends” with someone until a twist of fate shows a different light on the situation. The song is saying: life is short, take a leap of faith and don’t be afraid, “it’s only love”! ...more

Back in 1977 I joined a band as lead singer and songwriter, singing covers at clubs and pubs across the North of England. Audiences loved my original songs and The Stilettos were born! Line-up: Me on lead vocals, rhythm guitar and band songwriter. Tommy, lead guitar and backing vocals, Cliff on drums, his cousin Alan on bass. These songs are digitised from cassettes (remember them?!) Songs from an industrial working class perspective. The raw sound and energy of '70's British power pop, these songs are about class divisions, identity, love and life! And we can all relate to that can't we?
Trust is hard to gain and so easily lost. Sometimes we simply mess up and hurt the person we love the most, and you need to rebuild that trust. ...more
